The True Identity of a Space with Design Tales by Laura & Nora

Designtales was created by two beautiful souls Laura and Nora. Nora studied fashion design but she took a different path and now she is working as a food stylist and Laura studied photography, realizes her profession which is also her true passion. Berlin-based artists started their journey with a food blog where they share their delicious gluten-free recipes since especially Laura had hard times because of her food allergies. Their daily cooking routines turned into a profession through their blog by this way and they draw lots of attention when their delicious recipes met with their aesthetic taste. Even if they turned foods into artworks, it’s not the only thing that draws attention as it’s not their only passion. The renovation of their studio that they have realized in 2016 was a quite good job where they have represented their aesthetic taste not only by food photographs but also interior. Now, they establish the interior of their home and studio but they also give inspiration to many through the beautiful interiors which are mostly feminine and minimalist.

The way you exhibit your aesthetical eye won a great recognition, how did your creative journey start?

We actually started 8 years ago with a food blog and worked since then as food photographer and food stylist. Due to our passion for natural aesthetics for table decorations, we naturally started to evolve our style for interior and architecture. As creative minds it isa flowing process and not limited to a certain area or project. We always loved to use handcrafted objects as handmade ceramics and vintage furniture for our productions and started to surround us in our home with natural materials like linen, marble, chalk paint, wooden furniture as these are materials which we feel very comfortable with and which have a calming effect on us, especially because we have busy jobs.

Soft colors are especially at the fore front in your photos, what kind of an impact does color preferences have for you?

There can be quite a difference in this neutral color palette, for us as natural minimalists, we prefer to live inan "earthy color", which calms our minds and has a more soft, warm protective impact on us. Also we mainly use chalk paint, which creates a certain visual "depth" and we think it highlights the architecture of a space. In a lot of mediterranian countries youcan often see this color palette and a more vivid look of the hand-plastered walls as well.

Would you define the romantic quality of your photos as a feminine strength?

We don't think in certain categories. We never thought about this, we just do what we do.

The serenity you give through your photos is remarkable, what are the settings you apply most to create such beautiful scenes?

Thanks for the lovely compliment. In the beginning we imagine a space we feel comfortable in and choose colors, furniture, materials and architectural elements by this feeling and try to integrate different materials to keep a dialog and tension between everything. And we cherish the handcrafted original design, which means when we renovate a space we try to find the formerly beauty of it like old doors and frames, hidden floors, the beams etc. - we bring them back to life and highlight the mas these characteristic elements are the true identity of a space which we think is just important as to put beautiful furniture inside.

The tranquility of the spaces you are in can be felt even through the lens, what makes an environment peaceful to you?

To feel peaceful in your own home and how you can achieve this feeling is very subjective we think. Everyone feels different in certain colors and spaces. We personally love to be outside in nature and we guess this is why we are also trying to bring natural elements inside our home.
